The McClown Takes From The Pigtailed Girl
Having worked for Burger King for more than half my life, this is one of those stories that when I read it, puts a Happy Meal smirk on my face.
A New Hampshire man name Ronald MacDonald, who worked at a Wendy's was caught by the manager at 1:30am taking money from the safe.
As many people in the Quick Service Resteraunt Biz know,(but not many int real world), McDonalds has been the standard that all other QSR resteraunts are held to...until the last 5 years. McE D's has been falling like a tree in the woods. And the only people arond to hear it were their stockholders. But they were so far ahead of the pack, thet were still considerd the golden child till the last half decade.
The Clowns from Oakbrook wanted to expand beyond Burgers. They started Chipoltes Mexican Resteraunt and tried their white gloved hands at the Coffee House Craze. Then a Hindu man was reading a nutrition guide to see what the ingredients of his food was. Under fries it said "Meat Flavoring". After much digging, he found out that McDonalds used a 50/50 blend of animal fat and vegtable shortning in their fryers and was outraged. If the media Blitz over real news stories weren't enough, they were hit hard by Hollywood. First with Morgan Spurlock and his Super Sized Movie, Then Franny Armstrong's Movie "McLibel"
Sales were down so much that what used to be a near 20% margin over their competitors dropped under 3%. So what do the Golden Arched ones do to show the stockholders that they were going in the right direction? they introduce Higher Priced items and go 24 hours. To the stockholders it looks like profits are up, but to people who work in QSR, we know if you're open 33% more but only making 10% more profit, is it really making a difference.
But anyway, back to the point of this blog. After Raising Prices and Extending Hours and still making minimal profit gain, they did the only thing left to do to gain their market share back...Steal it.
