Old School

Let me start this out by saying I love my whole family, especially my grandparents. And everyone I know says I'm lucky to have three of my four grandparents alive after my 30th B-day. And I agree. A little back story to this is that both my parents worked full time jobs and all four of my grandparents watched my brother and I, and I really feel thy helped make me who I am today. But there are times I wonder who these people think they are. I guess I shouldn't say "these people" it's just one grandparent that is just making me feel like I'm the worst person in the world. A few months back, I visited my grandmother in the Hospitol. She introduced me to her nurse, and I thought the nurse and I had a nice conversation going. Then my grandmother starts saying how I had such a beautiful wedding, the nurse thought I was married, I said no, I'm recently divorced...and then all hell broke loose. After the nurse left, my grandmother pulls me to her side and says " you are never to say you are divorced around me, it's embaressing to me and the whole family."

My grandma is Old School, she's the oldest of I beleive 13 children who grew up in Italy. She met my grandfather during the war and came to America with him. She beleives I'm going to meet the girl of my dreams at church on Sunday morning. She has never been one to hide her opinions on the Polish, Blacks, Hispanics and the Jews, but I never thought her hatred would turn torward me.

I haven't visited her since. I've been told "Get over it, she's old and doesn't know what she's saying." And I feel bad about it because my Grandfather has been really sick but I can't look her in the eyes right now.

She always taught me you love your family no matter what, through the good and the bad. But she also said no mule is as stubborn as an Italian man.

Comments:
I'm so very sorry that you are having this tough time. Truth is, you gotta do what's right for you...NO ONE ELSE, no matter how you love family. You are doing what's best for you!
